Horse Riding

Annual permits are available for horse riders to follow a designated route through Bowood, taking riders through a diversity of woodland, grassy rides and parkland rich in flora and fauna. Access is available every day of the year between one hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset (officially published times) allowing the beautiful surroundings to be enjoyed in every season. There are plenty of grassed areas for cantering and jumping is allowed over obstacles found on the designated route.

A code of conduct is in place to ensure that the quality of the riding is maintained, in particular preservation of the ground when it is soft to avoid damage. The grassed rides and woodland paths are especially vulnerable to this and riders are requested to behave with due consideration and respect the fragile nature of this Grade 1 park.

Although riding permits are not transferable, an exception can be made for someone exercising your horses. If you are under 16 years of age, you must be accompanied by an adult, who is also a current permit holder. Cyclists or pedestrians can accompany riders with specific prior arrangement. Regrettably no dogs are allowed.
